Importers bringing regulated goods into Côte d’Ivoire must obtain a Certificate of Conformity (COC) to comply with national standards and avoid customs delays. Cotecna is officially authorized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and SME Promotion to issue these certificates under the country’s Conformity Assessment Programme.
What Is the Côte d’Ivoire Conformity Assessment Programme?
Following Decree No. 2017-567, Cotecna has been mandated to verify that all regulated products meet the applicable standards before entering the Ivorian market. This programme is designed to protect consumers and importers from unsafe, counterfeit, or substandard goods.
During the pilot phase, which began on February 15, 2019, certification is mandatory for products within the 13 families listed in Decree No. 2016-1152. Importing these goods without a valid COC may result in customs refusal and legal penalties.
How the Verification Process Works
Cotecna applies one of three conformity assessment routes depending on the exporter’s profile and shipment risk level. These may include documentation checks, inspections, and testing.
